ABOUT US - OLD AND NEW AD VARAŽDIN
The founding assembly of the new Astronomical Society Varaždin (AD Varaždin) was held on May 30, 2018. and the association was officially registered in the Register of Associations on 21.6.2018.
This put an end to the 20-year break after the end of the previous Astronomical Society of Varazdin.
Several members of previous Astronomical Society joined immediately after the founding of the new society, and thus after a long pause, continuity was restored.
In the first year of its work AD Varaždin set out with the founder's financial resources, after which the association received a generous anonymous donation from an earlier member
of the previous AD Varaždin which enabled more serious work of AD Varaždin. Based on the support of Mrs. Malenica from the City of Varaždin, it ensued
and financial support from the City and the first telescope was purchased and the first public observations were held.
Various educational workshops for children and winter, spring and summer astronomy schools for elementary school children followed.
For the general public and children attending astronomy schools, the first lectures by eminent astronomy experts were also organized
from Croatia - Mr. Ante Radonicć Mr. Korado Korlevic, Mr. Roman Brajša (also a member of the former AD Varazdin), Ph.D. Slobodan Jurač (member of the new AD Varaždin)
and Ph.D. Vibor Jelić. One of the founders' goals was to start a center of excellence in astronomy,
as recognized by Mr. Huđek from Varaždin County and in the 2019/2020 school year an astronomy program was launched as part of an existing project
Center of Excellence in Physics of Varaždin County. This completes the first year of work of AD Varaždin,
only the first in a hopefully long series of upcoming ones in which we will continue our work on the education and popularization of astronomy
as natural sciences starting with younger groups of children to the general public.
